Revolting women: Why midlife women are walking out

You can tell I really enjoyed Dr Lucy Ryan‘s new book by the number of page markers! Not just because it’s relevant to my own PhD research (which it is), but because it resonates so strongly with my own lived experience (which it does).

At times, the sheer volume of evidence illustrating the challenges midlife women face in business was a lot – but then it is in real life too. The inspiring stories and the invitation to create a positive agenda for change were uplifting. The perfect combination.

After Director-level positions across six industry sectors, I decided to go it alone in 2017 at the age of 48. I no longer felt heard in the large organisations I’d frequented.

Six years on, my career ambitions are just as Lucy describes:
✔ I want enjoyment and innate interest in my work
✔ Flexibility to ‘feed all the areas of my life’
✔ Stretching opportunities to grow, develop, and expand my world

The combination of specialist consulting with Hemsley Fraser (2 days a week) plus studying ‘fulltime’ for a PhD (3 days a week) may seem like a lot – but I’m more passionate about my work than ever. Bring it on.

Why not grab a copy yourself? Or for someone you care about?
